A peregrine is a pilgrim and we believe each of our residents is on a pilgrimage; spiritually, emotionally, and socially.
Choosing an assisted living residence for your loved one who is experiencing memory loss can be one of the most stressful tasks you will have to face.
The Peregrine Way® offers a path of support and healing for individuals with memory impairments and their families. We specialize in caring for patients with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, encouraging them to lead full lives by continuing to grow mentally, spiritually, and socially.
Our caring and compassionate staff welcomes family and friends to participate in every aspect of their loved one’s life. Alzheimer’s and dementia profoundly impact not only the individual but also their families – so we work hard to help you through your journey as well.
The Peregrine Way
The Peregrine Way® is a vision which seeks to revolutionize the expectations of the aging process in our society; away from an institutional model and toward a more dynamic and revitalizing environment which fosters intellectual, spiritual, and emotional growth.
The Peregrine Way® is built around the recognition of three fundamental principles that are incorporated into the positive life and aging experience of each of us: a commitment to a renewal of the individual growth process, a deepening of the spiritual experience, and the furthering of one’s intellectual pursuits recognizing the value of lifelong learning.
Each of those elements compliment and overlap, creating an environment whereby we challenge, nurture, and collaborate with our residents and staff. The Peregrine Way® is our response to the changing expectations of our seniors, to encourage and embrace this new found potential for growth and unforeseen possibilities. The word peregrine means pilgrim, and we understand that we are all pilgrims on our own pilgrimage. And wherever our journey takes us should be vital and meaningful. The Peregrine Way® says yes to this life and this journey.
Renewal of Individual Growth
Because we are now living longer and healthier lives, we no longer should accept the limitations associated with passive retirement and custodial care. We ask each of our residents to identify new goals or renew old interests so that they can continue to grow with us. This could be a physical goal, like being able to walk for 250 yards, an intellectual goal like learning the language of their parents, or a spiritual goal such as reading the Bible for the first time. Once those goals are identified, our staff then facilitates the attainment of those goals through special programs, volunteers, and specific community clubs.
Deepening of the Spiritual Experience
A healthy spiritual life is fundamental to a healthy aging process. It could come in the way of a religious ritual, meditation, scriptural reflection or simply prayer. By stressing the spiritual dimension of aging we are able to provide comfort for the challenges of aging which can be fraught by physical pain, isolation and depression, and provide a continuity of experience from a young child to the present, and stimulate long-term memory, thus linking together the lifelong spiritual experience. Each of our communities have a chapel, spiritual director, and on site services.
Life Long Learning with Peregrine University
We believe the possibilities of learning are endless and often ignored for our seniors. In addition to the educational value of learning, it can also be social and entertaining. We establish affiliations with local colleges and organizations to provide lecture series in our communities which are open to the family members and the public at large. In this way we not only stimulate our residents but also create learning projects that can be shared with adult children, old friends, and even new friends.

The Peregrine Memory Care Program strives to create the most supportive environment possible for everyone closely involved in an Alzheimer’s or dementia patient’s life.
Our program provides:
Activities and therapies for residents that promote stimulation, as well as a sense of comfort and calm.
Constant staff training and education to ensure your loved one receives the best care possible.
Support to help you and other friends and family members have the most positive experience possible and keep relationships strong.
A memory loss diagnosis is not only hard on the individual – it is also very difficult and emotionally complicated for family members. The Peregrine Way® Memory Care Program strives to help during this highly emotional time by offering the following supportive family programs that provide education, empathy, and empowerment.
Orientation – We’ll get to know you and you’ll get to know us through an assessment of you and your loved one’s hopes, needs and fears on the journey.
Education – We provide seminars on various types of dementia and the disease progression that will help ease fears of the unknown and help you to set realistic expectations for the future.
Communication Instruction – These presentations educate family members on how to have positive visits and provide techniques to improve verbal and physical communication.
Sensitivity Training – We hold seminars that provide the experience of dementia including: physical, sensory & cognitive loss.
Family Support Groups – We’re in this together. Our monthly meetings provide a supportive and empathetic setting where loved ones can feel safe to openly express their joys, insights & concerns.
Although care is highly individualized based on your loved one’s needs, we provide a number of signature programs that are designed to stimulate one’s long-term memory such as:
Spiritual Programs – Our spiritual director offers both denominational and non-denominational prayers and services to uplift and comfort the community.
Legacy Stories – Together, we record in writing each resident’s personal biography.
Peregrine University – We have interesting and entertaining lectures on topics familiar to the residents.
Time Capsules – We work with residents to create a safe-box of keepsakes to calm, stimulate, and lift residents’ spirits.
Around The World – On a monthly basis we explore different cultures of the world through dining, dress and music.
Radio Days – Classic radio programs from the past are provided to facilitate memories from the 30’s and 40’s.
